Trace designs onto ware and glaze. Carbon will fire out in the kiln. Carbon paper is one sided, meaning that it needs to have the “rough” side face down towards your pottery. It will not work/transfer the design if you have the “smooth” side down. It’s a good idea to test/check first to make sure you have the proper side down before copying your entire design.
Use a ballpoint pen to trace over your printed image. This pink carbon paper should be sandwiched between your design image paper (regular copy paper with your design printed on it) and the pottery you want to trace/transfer that image to. You can trace onto bare bisque or onto a light to medium background color that has completely dried. Once you transfer the image to pottery, you can paint in the lines. The light colored carbon image left behind will disappear during firing.
**If you are attempting to trace a design onto a dark, dried painted surface, we recommend using the black GRAPHITE transfer paper instead. This item is also listed for sale. It works the same way, it just shows up better over a dark painted background so you can see your design as you paint in the lines.
Both kinds of transfer paper are reusable multiple times over. You may need to readjust placement of the transfer sheet if you are copying over the same exact pattern on multiple pieces to get the best use out of it.
Please note: Computer monitors may represent colors slightly differently. After painting, you will need to return your pottery to the studio to have it fired so that it is food safe and can be used. Unfired ceramic glazes are not permanent or food safe without firing in a kiln first.
